Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon Sound' aims to boost wireless audio quality

Only days after it introduced its own project to deliver innovative haptics into Android, Qualcomm has declared another ambitious venture targeted at bridging the gaps in device functionality. This time it’s focusing on fostering wireless audio quality on telephones, headphones and gaming headphones by blending its cellular and sound technology to resolve latency and link problems. This way, it states, you won’t have problems with dropouts if streaming a playlist in your earbuds or overlook significant intel when using a headset at a gambling session.

To attain this aim, Qualcomm is using Bluetooth latencies as low as 89 milliseconds (that it asserts is 45 percent lower than its rivals), active sound cancellation, service for high performance 24-bit 96kHz sound, and super wideband voice. As usual, apparatus manufacturers will have the ability to let the technician from the processor giant, provided under the brand new”Snapdragon Sound” bannerads, to add to their own equipment.

Its initial clients consist of Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi and headset specialist Audio-Technica, each of which will include the sound suite in their future products. If all goes to plan, the Snapdragon Sound badge will begin appearing on everything from telephones and earbuds, originally, to added devices such as PCs, smartwatches and augmented reality glasses farther down the line.

Though high quality sound is easy to get across all of the use cases Qualcomm has recognized — out of lossless music flows on Tidal (and, shortly, Spotify) into Dolby Atmos service on cans — the aim here would be to eliminate a few of the flaws that include the wireless listening experience to bring it nearer to, well, wired sound.
